All is set for the inauguration of President-Elect John Dramani Mahama tomorrow at the Black Star Square in Accra.
Ten heads of state, two vice presidents, one speaker of parliament, two former presidents, and several heads of international organisations have confirmed their participation in the inauguration ceremony.
The European Union and the United States of America and the United Kingdom have issued press statements announcing their participation in the historic event.
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other heads of state on the African continent are expected to grace the occasion as the outgoing President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, hands over the presidency to Mr Mahama.
Over 700 applications for media accreditation have been received, with accredited journalists granted access to designated areas. A clean feed will be provided to all TV stations and channels for centralised TV production.
Commitment
The inauguration marks a pivotal moment in Ghana’s history, and the high-profile personalities from the EU, US and the UK expected to attend the ceremony underscores the commitment of the international community to partner Ghana to ensure sustainable development and regional stability.
The Spokesperson for the John Dramani Mahama Transition Team, Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, further highlighted what Ghanaians should expect at tomorrow's presidential inauguration and encouraged all to attend the ceremony.
Arrangements
Meanwhile the planning committee has announced sitting and security arrangements for the event. The Black Star Square will be divided into three zones:
Zone one is the Parliamentary Sitting Area and this area will be restricted to invited guests, with access granted only upon presentation of an invitation card.
Zone two is the Public Stands where this area will be open to the public, with adequate security and safety measures in place. Large LED screens will be installed to allow more people to watch the proceedings.
Zone three has been designated the Media Area, reserved for accredited journalists, with necessary facilities provided to support their work.
On Traffic and parking arrangements, several roads in Accra will be temporarily closed to facilitate the event. Motorists are advised to note the following arrangements:
The 28th February Road, Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, Castle Road, and Starlet 91 Road will all be closed. Traffic will be diverted to alternative routes, including Salem Avenue, Oxford street and Liberia Road. Designated car parks have been allocated, including the back of the Independence Arch, Forecourt of the States House and the Access Bank car park.
