The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs (MLGCRA) has transferred a total amount of Twenty-three million, Six hundred and Twenty one thousand Ghana cedis (GH₵ 23,621,000.00), as allowances for assembly members throughout the country.

The Local Government Minister, Mr Ahmed Ibrahim made this known at a press conference in Accra on Monday, July 14,2025.
Resetting agenda
He explained that each assembly member is receiving One thousand, Three hundred Ghana cedis (GH₵1,300.00) per month to enable them to perform their duties effectively and efficiently.
Pursuant to the Resetting Ghana Agenda,Mr Ibrahim stated that the NDC government allocated one hundred million Ghana cedis (GH₵100,000,000.00) in its 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy (Pg. 73, Section 395) to pay monthly consolidated allowances to all assembly members.
Objective
He observed that the objective of the intervention is to enhance the capacities of the assembly members and to equip them with financial resources and logistics to deepen monitoring of all government projects and programmes being implemented within their respective electoral areas.
Mr Ibrahim recalled that the local government ministry on 12th June 2025, requested the Ministry of Finance (MoF) to release GH₵100,000,000.00 to enable it to transfer the funds to all Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies for the payment of the monthly consolidated allowances to the assembly members. Consequently, the MoF released Twenty five million Ghana cedis (GHS25,000,000.00) on 18th June 2025, as first tranche of the allotted funds to the Local Government Ministry.
The Ministry transferred the money to the various MMDAs for payment to the assembly members on Monday 14th July 2025.
“Clearly, the Resetting Ghana Agenda on Local Governance and Decentralisation bodes well with this significant step of transferring resources to local governments and Assembly members” Mr Ibrahim stressed.
