The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Media, Arts, and Communication (UniMAC-IJ), Prof. Eric Opoku Mensah, has reaffirmed the institution’s crucial role in driving national and global transformation through education, innovation, and digital advancement.
Speaking at a recent graduation ceremony of the institution, he emphasised that the university’s mission aligned with President John Dramani Mahama’s government priorities.
He explained that in job creation, digitalisation, and inclusive education, the university is a strategic partner in Ghana’s development in equipping students with relevant skills to enhance employability and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.
“Our alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) reinforces our commitment to quality education (SDG 4), gender equality (SDG 5), industry innovation (SDG 9), and reduced inequalities (SDG 10),” Prof. Mensah stated.
He further highlighted the university’s dedication to bridging the gap between academia and industry through research, policy advocacy, and academic excellence, ensuring that education serves as a bridge to prosperity in a rapidly evolving, technology-driven world.
Leaders,changemakers
The Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, also encouraged graduates to look beyond academic achievements and position themselves as leaders and changemakers.
“In an era where information and communication shape global narratives, your role as graduates of this esteemed institution is pivotal. The knowledge and skills you have acquired will contribute significantly to national development and the transformation of the creative and media landscapes in Ghana and beyond,” he stated.
Prof. Abdulai urged graduates to embrace the opportunities ahead with confidence and purpose, noting that education is a powerful tool for impact, whether through storytelling, advocacy, policy development, or technological advancements in media and communication.
“Uphold the values of integrity, professionalism, and continuous learning. Be bold in your aspirations and contribute meaningfully to the development of Ghana and the global community,” he advised.
