The historic coastal town of Winneba in the Central Region came alive on January 1, 2025, as it hosted its annual New Year masquerade parade, drawing crowds of enthusiastic locals and visitors eager to witness the vibrant cultural display.
The streets were transformed into a spectacle of colour, music, and tradition as various masquerade groups, known locally as “Asafo companies,” showcased their creativity and skill.
Costumes
Dressed in elaborate costumes featuring bold red, white, and blue designs, the performers marched proudly through the streets, exuding energy and enthusiasm.
Their intricate outfits, some adorned with masks and eye-catching accessories, symbolised unity, identity, and the spirit of renewal. Each group moved in harmony to the rhythm of drumming and brass bands, thrilling onlookers who lined the streets to cheer them on.

Leading the parade was a flagbearer, waving a white flag emblazoned with symbols of peace and celebration. The event was more than just a parade—it was a vibrant expression of Winneba’s cultural heritage, blending creativity with tradition.
