The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has presented anaesthetic machines to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) and the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital as part of government’s efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across the country.
Under the Ministry’s initiative to distribute 50 anaesthetic machines nationwide, UGMC received three machines, while Korle Bu Teaching Hospital received eight. The move formed part of a broader strategy to equip health institutions with modern medical tools to enhance patient care.
Presentation ceremonies
Speaking at separate ceremonies to present the machines to the two institutions, Mr Akandoh said the government remained committed to retooling health facilities to ensure all Ghanaians have access to quality healthcare.
“It is part of our agenda to strengthen and adequately resource health institutions so they can deliver effectively,” he said.
The Minister urged hospital authorities to put the machines to immediate use and encouraged health professionals to treat patients with dignity and compassion. He also called on facilities to create systems that allow for client feedback.
Mr Akandoh further announced plans to deploy more medical doctors to district hospitals to promote equitable access to healthcare, urging newly posted doctors to accept assignments in rural areas where their services are most needed.
Appreciation
The Chief Executive Officers for both UGMC and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital expressed gratitude to the Minister and the Ministry for the support, noting that the equipment would significantly boost surgical and anaesthetic services.
