The Executive Presbytery of Assemblies of God,Ghana and their spouses led by the General Superintendent, Rev. Stephen Wengam, and Lady Mrs Monica Wengam have undertaken a historic visit to Hot Springs, Arkansas-the birthplace of the global Assemblies of God movement.
This pilgrimage formed part of the leadership’s ongoing efforts to deepen spiritual roots, enhance global collaboration, and equip the next generation of church leaders with strategic tools for growth, relevance, and global missions.
The Journey
Hot Springs, Arkansas, in the United States of America, holds profound historical significance. In April 1914 it was the venue for the first General Council meeting of Assemblies of God. Over 300 ministers gathered to formally launch what has since become one of the largest Pentecostal denominations in the world.
From that modest beginning, Assemblies of God has grown exponentially, now established in over 200 countries with a global membership of more than 85 million people. For Assemblies of God,Ghana, which traces its origins back to 1931 in Yendi, Northern Ghana, the visit was not just symbolic but spiritually transformative.
Solemn
At the historic site in Hot Springs, the delegation gathered in solemn prayer, led by Rev. Wengam and Rev. Dominic Yeo, the Global Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship.
They called on God for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit with Ghana at the epicenter as the nation prepares to celebrate 100 years of Assemblies of God Ghana in 2031 and hosting the World Assemblies of God Fellowship Congress in Accra in 2026.
Partnerships, spiritual growth
The trip was undertaken under the auspices of Rev.Yeo, and facilitated by Rev. Rod Loy, Senior Pastor of First Assembly of God (FNLR), Arkansas, and a key figure in the U.S. Assemblies of God leadership.
The Ghanaian delegation participated in leadership seminars, strategic ministry sessions, and devotional times of prayer.
A notable highlight was a question and answer session facilitated by Rev. Loy, Rev. Yeo, and other seasoned leaders. During the session, Ghana’s church leaders engaged deeply on issues ranging from team building to leadership ethics, and sustaining relevance in a changing global ministry landscape.
Appreciation
The Ghanaian delegation expressed heartfelt gratitude to Rev.Loy and his team for their generosity, spiritual leadership, and vision. The delegation further commended Rev. Wengam’s leadership, which continues to prioritise integrity, spiritual renewal, diligence, and loyalty as the cornerstones of Assemblies of God Ghana’s mission
