The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has expressed deep sorrow following a fatal road traffic crash that claimed the lives of sixteen people on the Atwedie-Asankare stretch of the N6 Highway in the Ashanti Region on Monday, July 28, 2025.

According to officials, the crash involved a Ford Transit Bus with registration number GT 4674-22 and a DAF XF articulated tanker truck registered GT 1674-17. Several others sustained severe injuries and are receiving medical attention.

Condolences

In a statement issued by the Authority, it extended condolences to the families of the deceased and support to those injured.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and affected associations,” the statement read. “We also wish those injured a speedy and full recovery.”

The NRSA noted with concern the increasing number of fatal accidents across the country and called for urgent and enhanced enforcement of road traffic laws.

“This tragic event underscores the urgent need for intensified enforcement of road traffic regulations by the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department across the country,” the Authority stressed.

The statement further urged motorists to strictly adhere to road safety regulations.

“Drivers must observe all safety rules, including speed limits, vehicle maintenance standards, and responsible driving practices,” the Authority cautioned. “The safety of every road user remains a shared responsibility.”

The NRSA assured the public of its ongoing collaboration with key stakeholders to curb road carnage.

“We continue to work closely with the Ghana Police Service, transport unions, and civil society actors to enhance road safety interventions nationwide,” the statement said. “We remain committed to safeguarding lives and reducing the frequency and severity of crashes on our roads” it added.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
