The Director of the Centre for Applied Research and Innovation in Supply Chain-Africa (CARISCA), Professor Nathaniel Boso, has proposed an overhaul of the nation's transportation system to make it more efficient to boost the supply chain sector.
The measure he explained, would equally enhance the smooth implementation of the 24-Hour economy to ensure a thriving business sector.
Prof Boso stated this in an interview with media practitioners on the sidelines of a two-day Supply Chain Business Forum and Exhibition in Accra.
It aimed at enhancing supply chain management practices across the African continent.
Organised by CARISCA, the event was on the theme, “Fueling Africa's Growth: Supply Chain Innovation and Financing.”
Supply chain system
Prof Boso stressed that “the beginning of every business starts with supply chain so people should be able to deliver their goods from the North to South within 24 hours to boost the supply chain system.”
“Goods move on wheels and so if the wheels are not moving efficiently the transportation system including the Ghana Private Road Transport Union must be reset, modernised or overhauled" he stated.
“How can we operate a 24-Hour economy to make sure goods and services are efficiently moving from one point to the other?” the director further asked.
Prof Boso acknowledged the fact that when the system was overhauled, people would complain but when a solution was found to the challenges in the supply chain sector, they would stop complaining.
The Chief Executive of Maxwell Investments Group, Dr Maxwell Ampong, said for supply chain to be effective, sectors such as infrastructure, transportation, roads and ports must be working efficiently and government must be intentional about it.
