The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God in Benin, Rev. Sodji Gossou, has paid a courtesy visit to the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God,Ghana, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, at the church’s head office, the Great Commission House, Ringway Estates in Accra.
Purpose
The purpose of the visit was to learn about Ghana's preparations for hosting the 2026 World Assemblies of God Congress (WAGC) and to affirm the support of Assemblies of God in Benin.
Rev. Gossou who is also the Chairman of West Africa Assemblies of God Alliance(WAAGA) congratulated Rev. Wengam on his visionary leadership and the strides made under his administration. He expressed confidence in Ghana’s ability to host a successful global event and pledged the prayerful and practical support of the Benin church.
Appreciation
In his remarks, Rev. Wengam thanked Rev. Gossou and his delegation for the visit, describing it as a sign of unity and shared purpose within the global Assemblies of God family. He assured them that preparations for the 2026 Congress were progressing steadily.
“We are working tirelessly with top event management companies to secure a comfortable venue for the Congress. We are expecting over 20,000 participants from across the globe,” Rev. Wengam said.
He added that funding for the event had already been secured, although the specific amount would remain confidential for strategic reasons. Rev. Wengam further highlighted the economic impact of the Congress on Ghana, stating that the event is expected to boost tourism, hospitality, and local commerce significantly.
As part of the visit, Rev. Wengam, on behalf of the General Council of Assemblies of God,Ghana, presented a traditional Ghanaian attire to Rev. Gossou. In a separate gesture,the General Superintendent on behalf of the President of the Ministers’ Wives Association, Lady Mrs Monica Wengam and her executives presented a gift package to the wife of Rev. Gossou.
Rev. Gossou expressed gratitude for the warm reception and thoughtful gifts, and commended the leadership of Assemblies of God, Ghana for their commitment and hospitality.

The meeting was attended by key officials including the General Secretary, Rev. Ernest Birinkorang, and the Head of Operations of the Assemblies of God,Ghana Head Office, Rev. Dr. Freeman Osie-Tete.
Background on WAGC 2026
The World Assemblies of God Congress is a quinquennial gathering of Assemblies of God leaders, pastors, and members from across the world. It serves as a platform for spiritual renewal, leadership training, global fellowship, and missions mobilisation. Ghana has won the bid to host the 2026 edition, marking a historic moment as it will be the first time the event is held in West Africa. The Congress which is scheduled to take place from October 14 to 16,2026 is expected to draw thousands of delegates, making it one of the largest Christian gatherings in the sub-region.
Preparations by the Ghanaian church have been lauded by various international stakeholders, with the government and private sector also showing interest in supporting the event due to its potential socio-economic impact.
