The Ghanaian Battalion 12 (GHANBATT 12) and the Ghana Formed Police Unit Rotation 9 (GHANFPU 9), serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), have marked Ghana’s 68th independence anniversary at the GHANBATT Headquarters in Bentiu.
The event, which brought together military and police personnel, was a moment of national pride and reflection.
The Reviewing Officer and Commanding Officer of GHANBATT 12, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Godfred Asampong, commended the troops for their dedication to maintaining peace and protecting civilians under the UNMISS mandate.
Sacrifices
In his remarks, Lt. Col. Asampong emphasised that the celebration was not only about Ghana’s independence but also an opportunity to honour the sacrifices of the nation’s forefathers.
He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to global peace and security through its contributions to UN peacekeeping missions.
He further urged both GHANBATT and GHANFPU personnel to continue being good ambassadors of Ghana in South Sudan.

Lt. Col. Asampong encouraged them to uphold professionalism, discipline, and selflessness while carrying out their duties, reinforcing the values of peace and service that Ghana stands for.
