According to the NRSA, the driver involved in the crash operated an unregistered Toyota salon car with the trade license plate number DV 6976Z-25. The driver has since been detained by the police and is assisting with investigations into the tragic event.
In response to the incident, the NRSA has called on the Ghana Highway Authority to expedite the installation of improved pedestrian crossing facilities in accident-prone areas. The Authority stressed that such measures are essential in ensuring pedestrian safety, particularly at night.
Additionally, the NRSA highlighted the urgent need to address the ongoing problem of malfunctioning and inadequate road infrastructure, which it identified as a major contributing factor to road crashes and pedestrian endangerment.
The NRSA has also urged all road users to exercise caution. Pedestrians are advised to identify safe walking and crossing points, while drivers are reminded to strictly adhere to speed limits on highways, urban areas, and built-up zones.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing road safety and protecting lives, emphasising the importance of collective responsibility in preventing such unfortunate occurrences in the future.
