President John Dramani Mahama has announced the mandatory recall of all Diplomatic and Service passports issued under the previous administration.
The recall aims to prevent misuse, safeguard the country’s reputation, and reinforce the integrity of diplomatic engagements.
A statement signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama, emphasised the government's commitment to maintaining high standards in the administration of official travel documents in line with national and international regulations.
Recall
To facilitate the recall, Mr. Mahama outlined the following key steps for compliance.
The first step is to inform all holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports issued by the previous administration to return the documents for verification and potential re-issuance.
According to the statement, holders of such passports are required to return them by January 24, 2025, to ensure a timely and systematic process.
It explained that a Comprehensive Verification will be conducted to thoroughly review all returned passports to confirm alignment with the current eligibility criteria for issuance.
Public cooperation
The statement underlined that public cooperation is essential to maintaining the credibility and efficiency of the country’s passport system. It also invited stakeholders to reach out to the Secretary’s office for any clarification or support required during this important exercise.
