The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has engaged the management of 2M Express Limited over recent complaints about the quality of its service on the Accra-Kumasi route.
According to reports, the NRSA discussed concerns regarding road safety and urged the company to implement measures to enhance the safety and quality of its operations.
The Authority acknowledged that 2M Express Limited had introduced a proactive initiative to incorporate drug testing for drivers as part of its pre-trip operational checks. The NRSA commended this measure, noting that it was a positive step in improving safety controls. The Authority also called on other transport operators to adopt similar measures to reduce risks on the roads.
Additional concerns
However, the NRSA issued several directives to 2M Express Limited to address additional concerns. The Authority instructed the company to ensure that all drivers use manual logbooks to monitor speed limits and ensure compliance with regulations on maximum driving hours. This, the NRSA stated, would help reduce the risks of driver fatigue.
Furthermore, the NRSA directed 2M Express Limited to implement the Regulation on Pre-Trip Operational Inspections as prescribed by the National Road Safety Regulations, 2022 (L.I.2468). The Authority emphasised that the company should adhere to these guidelines to ensure that vehicles meet minimum operational standards before embarking on a trip and maintain proper records.
Drivers
Additionally, the NRSA recommended that all drivers undergo a Refresher Road Safety Training to enhance their knowledge of risk perception and their ability to react to hazards. This training, the NRSA emphasised, was crucial in reducing road traffic accidents, injuries, and fatalities.
The NRSA confirmed that it would continue to carry out periodic and random inspections of 2M Express Limited’s operations to ensure compliance with the outlined measures. The Authority also stated that any failure to comply with these directives would result in sanctions as prescribed by law.
The NRSA reiterated its commitment to working collaboratively with all transport operators to improve service standards and reduce the risks associated with road traffic crashes.
