The Cedar Mountain Chapel of Assemblies of God,Ghana in East Legon was filled with solemnity and gratitude as family, friends, church members, and dignitaries gathered for a memorable night of remembrance and celebration in honour of the late Madam Deborah Wengam.
Madam Wengam was the biological mother of the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Reverend Stephen Yenusom Wengam.
Legacy of faith, love
The night was dedicated to celebrating the life of a remarkable woman whose faith, love, and discipline profoundly influenced her family and all who knew her.
Through heartfelt tributes, music, and prayers, attendees reflected on her life as a devoted mother, a woman of God, and a source of inspiration to many.
The event featured soul-stirring music from renowned gospel artists, hymns that reflected her unwavering faith, and a series of tributes from family members, leaders among others.
Exhortation
The night also served as an opportunity for encouragement and hope as ??Rev. Birinkorang drew inspiration from Hebrews 6:10, emphasising the superiority of Christ and the importance of faith and perseverance, even amid trials.
His message served as a reminder of the eternal rewards for those who remain steadfast in their faith
Tribute
Rev.Wengam delivered a heartfelt tribute in honour of his late mother, highlighting her pivotal role in shaping his life and legacy.
The General Superintendent further reflected on her virtues, spiritual influence, and the indelible impact she left on his journey and described his mother as a pillar of strength who raised her children with discipline, godliness, and prophetic vision.
“She always encouraged me to live differently to honour God in everything, and to carry myself with respect. She saw the future God had for me long before I did,” he observed.
Rev. Wengam described his mother as a devoted and humble church member who prioritised her role as a mother.
“She was determined to raise her children to be godly, disciplined, and respectful. She had a prophetic eye and could see what my future held,” he told the gathering.
He recalled how his mother instilled in him the principles of respect, discipline, and the importance of carrying himself with dignity.
“She always reminded me that I was different and couldn’t serve God anyhow. She taught me to be purposeful in my service to the Lord,” he added.
Rev. Wengam recounted three of his mother’s most joyous moments which was when he got married, when he became a father and the day he was elected General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana.
“She often said she was ready to go and be with the Lord after witnessing these milestones because she had seen and done it all,” he stated.
Message to parents
Rev. Wengam therefore urged parents to cherish and invest in their children, no matter the number.
“Even if you have one child, be grateful and take care of that child. It’s not about quantity but the quality of the upbringing. My mother is a shining example to many women,” he advised.
Celebration of life
As the evening drew to a close, attendees were reminded of the importance of living a life of purpose, faith, and love—values Madam Deborah Wengam embodied throughout her life.
Each tribute painted a vivid picture of Madam Wengam as a woman of deep faith and compassion, emphasising her humility, commitment to family, and her role as an exemplary Christian woman whose legacy continues to inspire.
The memorial service was attended by a host of dignitaries, including pastors, foreign guests, national departmental directors, ambassadors, general superintendents from across the globe, and Executive Presbyter officers.
