Assemblies of God Television (AGTV) on Thursday(December 26, 2024) hosted over 400 children at the Social Welfare Centre in Madina.
The event was under AGTV's “Christmas Party on the Streets” initiative. The beneficiaries were presented with food, assorted drinks, water, and special packages to enable them feel the warmth and joy of the festive season.
Heartwarming celebration
The initiative, organised to bring smiles to the faces of underprivileged children, provided a platform for the community to connect and celebrate the birth of Christ.
The General Manager of AGTV, Mr. Abraham Asare emphasised the station's commitment to spreading the gospel, love and compassion, especially during the Christmas season.
"We are not just giving them food, drinks and all that rather we are giving them the gospel that Jesus died for us and its wise to accept him as your saviour" he said.
“We have done this for 3 years and it's difficult to measure how many souls that have received Jesus into their lives, only the Lord knows" he added.
Mr Asare expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to the party, saying "many people including churches, the General Superintendent, Reverend Stephen Wengam, Executive Presbytery Officers, Mrs. Comfort Marfo and everybody as well as AGTV staff must be commended.”
Sermon
The National Director for Children’s Ministries of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Mrs. Comfort Marfo, shared an uplifting sermon during the event. She expressed gratitude to God for blessing the Assemblies of God team and the children gathered.
“God created us all, and He loves us all, including the animals on the earth. We must show love and concern for everyone,” she said, encouraging the children to embody the spirit of love, forgiveness, and faith.
She further urged the children to place their trust in God, reminding them that faith in him guarantees eternal life.
Appreciation
On behalf of the District Pastor of the Madina District Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Kofi Osei emphasised that the children in the congregation are uniquely cherished and not forgotten. He reassured them of Jesus' enduring love and constant watchfulness over their lives, expressing that Christ desires His light to shine brightly within them.
Drawing a parallel to the story of the wise men, Rev. Osei remarked, "Just as the star led the wise men to the birthplace of Christ, may the light of His love guide you each day."
He further explained that the Church has a divine mandate to be a beacon of light to the world. This involves spreading hope, peace, joy, laughter, and love to all people and in all circumstances.
As some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to AGTV for the gesture, Rev. Osei encouraged everyone to embrace the spirit of Christmas wholeheartedly: "Let the light of Christmas shine brightly in our hearts, and may we all carry that light into our communities."
Later, AGTV donated some food items and assorted drinks to the Echoing Hills Village Orphanage near the Madina Social Welfare Centre as part of the Christmas party on the streets for children initiative. The donation was done in partnership with Assemblies of God Children's Ministry, Joy Fellowship, Hope Line and other sponsors.
The Director of the Orphanage, Reverend William okyere, who received the items, explained that Echoing Hills houses and caters for homeless and abandoned children, victims of child abuse, orphans, special children and persons with disability.
He thanked AGTV and its sponsors for the gesture which he noted will help bring smiles on the faces of the inmates.
Initiative
The AGTV Christmas Party on the Streets was not just an event but a testament to the true essence of Christmas—spreading love, fostering unity, and remembering the less fortunate. The Assemblies of God team reiterated their commitment to continuing such initiatives that bring hope and joy to communities in need.
The celebration ended with smiles, laughter, and the promise of a brighter future as the children left the event with hearts full of joy and cherished memories of the day.
