The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has stated that no fees are required for the issuance of attestation letters related to fire and emergency incidents.
The directive follows reports of unauthorised charges being introduced at the Accra City Fire Station before issuance of attestation letters to victims of the recent fire disaster at the Kantamanto market.
In a press statement signed by Divisional Officer Two and Head of Public Relations, Desmond E. Ackah, the GNFS categorically stated that the practice was unauthorised and urged the public not to make any payments for such requests.
Investigation underway
The GNFS assured affected victims, including those from the recent Kantamanto fire, that a thorough investigation was ongoing.
The statement warned that “any officer found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary action in line with the GNFS's code of conduct.”
The GNFS reaffirmed its commitment to serving the public with professionalism and integrity. It encouraged anyone with information regarding the unauthorised fee collection to report to the GNFS Greater Accra Headquarters at Korle-Bu or contact the Public Relations Department (at 050 960 8744) for prompt action.
Commitment to accountability
The service expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation and understanding during this period and pledged to remain dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of accountability and service delivery.
