The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has called for enhanced investment in social protection programmes to reduce vulnerability among the citizenry.
Speaking at the launch of the Ghana Public Finance Review Report in Accra, she emphasised the need to strengthen and expand initiatives such as the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) and the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP).
Madam Lartey explained that, these programmes are crucial in supporting vulnerable populations, and increasing their coverage and value of benefits will significantly impact on the vulnerable in the society.
Organised by the World Bank under the theme "Building the Foundations for Resilient and Equitable Fiscal Policy," the event provided a comprehensive analysis of public revenue and expenditure efficiency, equity, and impact.
It also aimed to inform Ghana's fiscal consolidation efforts in recovering from the 2022 macroeconomic crisis.

The report recommended key policy priorities for building a robust and equitable fiscal system, including strengthening fiscal discipline, sustainably enhancing domestic revenue mobilisation, managing the financing mix, and ring-fencing pro-growth and pro-poor investments. It emphasised prioritising spending on human development, agriculture, economic transformation, and climate resilience.
The Ghana Public Finance Review underscores the significance of strategic investments and fiscal discipline in promoting economic stability and social equity. As the government takes steps towards fiscal consolidation, the report serves as a roadmap for achieving sustainable growth and reducing poverty in Ghana.
