The National Education Forum engagements commenced today in the Volta Regional Capital, Ho.
The engagements aimed to critically analyse the nation's current education system and propose solutions to address the gaps.
Pillars
The engagements will focus on five pillars during deliberations. The first pillar is on infrastructure, both physical and virtual, such as information and communication technology (ICT); The second pillar is how to provide quality education; The third pillar is ensuring regulation, accountability and governance while the fourth pillar is education financing, focussing on sustained funding, to ensure quality education outcomes. The fifth pillar is on research and data.
Zonal engagements
The eight-member National Education Forum Planning Committee has indicated that the Volta and Oti region events would begin the zonal engagements, with the climax at the validation workshop at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) next week.
Chaired by Prof. George K. T. Oduro, the Planning Committee has zoned the country into the northern zone, the middle zone, and the southern zones for the stakeholder engagements. The Ho and Oti regional zone event begins tomorrow, where a total of 100 participants are expected. Meanwhile the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference and the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) have voiced their deep dissatisfaction over their exclusion from the National Education Forum.
In a statement, the two influential religious bodies described their omission as a significant setback to inclusive and participatory discussions on Ghana’s educational future.
