A United Kingdom-based management lecturer and corporate strategist, Mr. Richard Kwateng Ahenkorah says the key to survival in an increasingly saturated media market lies in strategic repositioning.
Stating this in an exclusive interview with AGTV, he advised Christian media outlets to have a clear niche focus, undertake continous strategic reviews and invest in capacity building.
Niche, revisiting Core Values
Mr Ahenkorah emphasised that Christian media houses must regularly revisit their mission and vision statements to ensure alignment with their target audience, adding that by identifying their unique value proposition, they can refine their approach and penetrate untapped market segments.
He suggested to management to assess whether they are reaching their intended audience effectively and, if not, rethink their strategy to expand viewership and listenership.
Building capacity, retaining talent
Regarding capacity building, Mr Ahenkorah pointed out that investing in employees through training and professional development is a game-changer.
He urged media organisations to equip their staff with skills that drive growth and innovation.
"It's better to train an employee who resigns than to keep an untrained one forever," he notes, highlighting the importance of developing a skilled and committed workforce.
Leadership for sustainability
With his vast experience in banking, consultancy, and media management, Mr Ahenkorah underscored the importance of adaptability and leadership in repositioning Christian media organisations such as AGTV.
As a former lecturer in Strategic Leadership and Organisational Management, he encouraged media executives to focus on their strengths while tackling challenges head-on.
"In a time when financial constraints threaten media sustainability, AGTV’s ability to innovate, retain talent, and refine its strategic vision will determine its future success" he noted.
