Children’s ministry teachers from over 40 different church denominations have completed a day's transformative conference at Shiashie, East Legon. It was aimed at equipping the participants with skills in creative and engaging teaching methods.
Organised by Diakonos Ministries International, the event was themed “Paint the Gospel in Vivid Colours” . It focused on equipping the participants with the requisite tools and strategies needed to raise the next generation in the Christian faith through creative and engaging teaching methods.
The conference featured practical workshops and the distribution of free children’s ministry materials aimed at enhancing teaching in Sunday schools and children’s churches.
Speakers
The Director of Diakonos Ministries International, Pastor Theophilus Andoh, emphasised the importance of presenting the gospel in ways that resonate with children. “Children need to be exposed to the gospel in creative and engaging ways,” he said, adding that teachers must be well-prepared before stepping into class.
A children’s ministry expert from the United States of America, Mrs. Heather Stames, encouraged teachers to take their preparation seriously. “We must love the children we teach by showing them grace,” she told participants, stressing the importance of spiritual and emotional readiness.
Also addressing the gathering, the National Director of Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) Ghana, Madam Theresa Alberta Davidson, advised that children and adults should not fellowship together in the same auditorium. She explained that children have shorter attention spans and learn better through interactive, visual, and hands-on activities. She further called on church leaders to empower children’s ministry teachers to start and manage children’s churches effectively.
Appreciation
One of the participants, Maame Araba, expressed her appreciation to the organisers, stating that the conference had equipped her with valuable skills that would greatly impact her ministry.
The event ended on a high note, with renewed zeal among attendees to make children’s ministry more impactful and gospel-centred.
