The Electoral Commission (EC) has initiated engagements with the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) to address the concerns raised following the publication of the EC selecting some media houses for accreditation to gain access to collation centres.
The ongoing dialogue with media stakeholders is aimed at balancing the objectives of limiting accreditation for media houses for collation centres and addressing the growing concerns raised by media partners.
Quota
A statement dated Wednesday November 27, 2024 and signed by the Deputy EC Chairman, Operations, Samuel Tettey, stated that the Commission acknowledged receiving numerous calls from media organisations expressing dissatisfaction with the quotas granted.
“We are a listening Commission and are confident that our discussions with the leadership of the GJA and GIBA will result in an arrangement that is both workable and acceptable,” the statement said.
The EC emphasised its commitment to transparency, highlighting its decision to grant media access to all its Constituency, Regional, and National Collation Centres.
At the same time, the Commission stressed the importance of maintaining order and ensuring a peaceful process at these centres, which necessitated limiting the number of persons granted access at any given time.
The Commission reaffirmed its dedication to fostering transparency and collaboration with the media as an essential partner in the electoral process.
