The Ministry of the Interior has announced a temporary closure of all land borders across the country for today (Saturday December 7, 2024).
The closure takes effect immediately and would remain in force until 6:00 pm on Sunday, December 8, 2024.
This measure is aimed at preventing any potential unlawful activities that could disrupt the electoral process, such as unauthorised cross-border movements and other security threats.
Statement
This decision was made known in a statement signed by the Minister for the Interior, Mr Henry Quartey stating that it formed part of government's efforts to uphold the security, fairness, and integrity of the General Elections.
“Citizens, travelers, and border communities have been urged to comply with the directive” the statement added.
The Ministry emphasised the importance of full cooperation with state security agencies that would be stationed at various border points to enforce the temporary restrictions.
