In a landmark move to promote professionalism and integrity in internal auditing, the Institute of Internal Auditors Ghana (IIA Ghana) has officially inducted 78 individuals into office at its maiden induction ceremony held in Accra.
The induction marks a significant milestone in the institute’s commitment to upholding high ethical standards, enhancing capacity building, and improving the practice of internal auditing in Ghana.
Raising the bar
The induction aimed to recognise the importance of the internal auditing profession while outlining the expectations for new members.
Speaking in an interview at the event, the President of Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Mr Joseph Dakora Zumasigee, emphasised that the induction process seeks to highlight the professional value of internal auditors and the role they play in organisational governance and accountability.
"We expect our new members to understand the benefits of being part of the Institute and to carry themselves as ambassadors of the profession. Their conduct, work ethic, and commitment will help us build a stronger professional foundation that supports the growth of our country," Mr. Zumasigee said.
Modern standards
The Vice President of CIA Ghana, Mr. Ebenezer Kwadwo Omari-Mireku, urged the newly inducted members to embrace modern internal auditing practices by adopting technological tools, data analytics, and risk-based methodologies.
"We want our members to shift from the traditional manual way of doing things to using technological tools and data analytics. This approach will help them forecast risks, identify emerging issues, and offer proactive advice to management in decision-making processes," he advised.
Mr. Omari-Mireku further encouraged the inductees to be forward-looking professionals by not only analysing past data but also providing strategic foresight that helps organisations anticipate and mitigate future risks.
Call to action
Both leaders urged all internal audit practitioners and those with an interest in the profession to join the IIA Ghana to help build a stronger professional community that contributes to national development.
"This induction is not just a ceremony; it is a call to action. We want to build a robust professional network that can promote transparency, accountability, and good governance in both public and private sectors," Mr. Zumasigee added.
Awards
As part of the ceremony members were awarded with certificates as they dedicate and bring in exceptional contributions to the internal auditing profession.
