The Volta Region has taken delivery of ballot papers for the December 7 elections.
Two trucks loaded with the ballot papers arrived at the Volta Regional Police Headquarters at about 10:00 pm on Tuesday November 26, 2024.
The Volta Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Mr Eric Dzakpasu confirmed this to AGTV News on Wednesday, November,27,2024.
He explained that some stakeholders and agents of political parties are inspecting the materials at the Volta Regional Police headquarters in Ho while others have finished inspecting.
He said due to the late arrival, the political parties placed their seals on the locks of the containers and defected inspection to Wednesday November 27, 2024.
The consignment contains 186 sacks of presidential ballot papers and 70 sacks of parliamentary ballot papers.
Special voting
With the arrival of the materials, the District police commands are expected to take custody of the materials for the special voting ahead of Monday.
The rest of the ballot materials will be kept at the armoury of the Regional Police Command until a later date when they will be released to the District commands for the general elections on December, 7.
The Volta Region has a total of 1,014, 804 total registered voters with about 9,030 persons expected to take part in the special voting to be held on Monday, December 2, 2024 across 22 voting centres.
Defective
It would be recalled that the Electoral Commission was compelled to destroy all defective presidential and parliamentary ballot papers previously printed for the Volta and Ahafo Regions.
The destruction took place on Thursday, November 21, 2024 under the supervision of political parties, independent observers, the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), and the Police Service.
The move follows the EC's announcement that incorrect serial numbers had been identified on the ballot papers for these regions, necessitating their reprinting.
