As part of preparations to mark the Centenary anniversary of the Assemblies of God, Ghana in 2031, the church has acquired a 120-acre land for the construction of an International Convention Centre.
The centre, to be christened “Assemblies of God Centenary City” will accommodate up to 6,000 people when completed.
It will also help to ensure the church's successful hosting of high-profile events.
The General Superintendent of the church, Rev. Stephen Wengam, announced this during the recent 31st Biennial General Council Meeting of the church in Navrongo in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality in the Upper East Region. The meeting discussed key achievements and ongoing initiatives aimed at transforming the church.
Report, debt
Presenting his report to give account of his two-year stewardship, Rev. Wengam, who also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Africa Assemblies of God Alliance, revealed that 534 new churches were planted between September 2022 and July 2024.
He noted that the achievement was a clear manifestation of the successes chalked up by the church and efforts made by the leadership to ensure growth through its outreach initiatives.
He also announced that the national church has become debt-free after successfully clearing a 10 million-cedi-loan used to construct its headquarters office complex. The church, Rev Wengam explained, has also settled a substantial loan it took for the construction of the Shai Hills Retreat Centre.
He indicated that the church’s efforts in enhancing its digital presence and launching social intervention projects were other key achievements.
Reforms
Touching on reforms in the church to improve its operations in the future, the General Superintendent announced that a Technical Committee has been established to review and propose reforms to the church’s administrative structures and practices.
Rev. Wengam also shared with the meeting, the church’s preparations so far towards hosting of the World Congress of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship in Accra in 2026.
Voting
The council members voted overwhelmingly, with 99 per cent in favour , to adopt the General Superintendent’s report without any further discussion. The session concluded with celebrations, as the church reflected on the remarkable progress made in just two years under Rev. Wengam’s leadership.
