The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana Reverend Stephen Yenusom Wengam, has announced the formation of a dedicated committee to review the church's 100-year journey which will be attained in seven years.
The committee he explained, will propose radical administrative and structural reforms aimed at fostering growth, prosperity and a more effective discipleship mission.
Rev Wengam made this known in Accra on Wednesday, November 20,2024. He said the decision to form a committee was part of a comprehensive strategy formulated by leadership as the church approaches its 100-year milestone.
Strategies
The General Superintendent stated that the strategies to help strengthen the church includes setting in motion a series of spiritual activities and initiatives designed to enhance the church’s spiritual foundation and organisational efficiency.
These efforts, he observed are to ensure that by the time Assemblies of God reaches its Centennial celebration, the church will be proud of its accomplishments, spiritually fortified, and equipped to soar to even greater heights in its mission to impact lives and fulfill its calling.
Rev Wengam stated that the changes are intended to ensure that Assemblies of God remains spiritually vibrant and organisationally robust in the coming decades.
He underscored the importance of implementation of the strategies to prepare the church adequately to face the next 100 years with renewed strength, unshaken poise, and unyielding determination.
“This is our time to rise, to grow, and to ensure that our lives are not only meaningful but also a testimony of faith, resilience, and purpose. Together, we move forward, confident in the grace that sustains us and the vision that propels us” the General Superintendent further stated.
He emphasised the need for reflection and introspection to assess whether the church has lived up to the vision of its founders and the divine mandate it upholds stressing that this period is crucial for evaluating past achievements, identifying missed opportunities, and strategising for future growth and relevance.
Spiritual rejuvenation
Rev Wengam observed that the church is entering a deliberate season of spiritual rejuvenation to ensure that it is well-prepared to embark on the next century with strength and purpose.
Challenges
He observed that many churches face challenges as they approach the 100-year mark, including the risk of spiritual decline and the emergence of what he described as “heresies.”
In order to guard against these pitfalls, he emphasised the importance of proactive measures, including a renewed focus on prayer and the word of God.
