Day 2 of Assemblies of God Ghana’s 31st Biennial General Council Meeting - General Superintendent’s Report Shines.
The second day of the 31st Biennial General Council Meeting of Assemblies of God Ghana marked a significant moment as Rev. Stephen Wengam, the General Superintendent, presented his report on the first two years of his leadership. The business session, held at the packed council meeting, highlighted key achievements and ongoing initiatives aimed at transforming the church.
Rev. Wengam, who also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Africa Assemblies of God Alliance, reported the planting of 534 new churches between September 2022 and July 2024, a clear testament to the church’s growth and outreach efforts. He also announced that the national church has become debt-free after successfully clearing a 10 million cedi loan used to construct the headquarters office complex. The church also played a pivotal role in settling a substantial loan for the Shai Hills Retreat Center.
A major highlight was the announcement of a 120-acre land acquisition for the development of an international convention center, to be named Assemblies of God Centenary City, in honor of the church's 100th anniversary in 2031. The proposed center will accommodate up to 6,000 people for large-scale events.
In a move towards future-proofing the church’s operations, a Technical Committee has been established to review and propose reforms to the church’s administrative structures and practices. Additionally, the report outlined plans for the establishment of English-speaking Assemblies to cater to the middle class and professional communities.
Rev. Wengam also shared the church’s preparations to host the World Congress of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship in Accra in 2026, further solidifying Ghana’s place on the global stage. The church’s efforts in enhancing its digital presence and launching social intervention projects were also noted as key achievements.
In a historic move, the council members voted overwhelmingly, with 99% in favor, to adopt the General Superintendent’s report without discussion. The session concluded with celebrations, as the church reflected on the remarkable progress made in just two years under Rev. Wengam’s leadership.
